ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man is facing charges after he allegedly broke into an antique garage, stole a 1950s Jaguar vehicle, and placed it online to sell last summer.
A probable cause statement says Joshua Smith broke into a garage on June 15, 2024, that stores antique vehicles in Jefferson County along Horine Road by removing the wood supports of the wall.
Smith then had a towing company take the $75,000 1954 Jaguar XK-120 to a residence in Kirkwood and placed the car for sale online for $20,000.
Police were notified by an individual that said Smith was messaging him about looking at or buying an antique vehicle from Horine Road. An arrangement was set up so police arrested Smith on July 3 when he entered the building again through the damaged wall from the prior incident.
Smith is charged with second-degree burglary, stealing $25,000 or more, and second-degree property damage. An initial appearance is scheduled for May 21.
