ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis Metropolitan police officer was charged with a misdemeanor on Thursday after allegedly sharing a fatal traffic crash recording on Snapchat.

According to St. Louis Metropolitan Police, Griffin Montgomery, 30, recorded the crash footage on his personal cell phone on Feb. 14, 2024, after logging into a criminal justice information-sharing system.

While logged into the “Real Time Crime Center,” he located the recording of a traffic incident involving two pedestrians who were struck and killed.

Montgomery allegedly shared the video on Snapchat with others not currently employed with SLMPD.

SLMPD said Montgomery had no official involvement with the investigation of the fatal traffic incident.

Montgomery had been charged with Misuse of Official Information by a Public Servant, also known as a Class A Misdemeanor.
