ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – It is a busy time for roofing companies; one local roofing business said they’re seeing an overwhelming number of calls after last week’s deadly storms.

Neighbors in Chesterfield said homeowners are dealing with tarps on roofs and missing shingles.

“We had a pine tree that was maybe 40-50 feet tall. Something like that and the wind came through; it was very fortunate for us,” said David Henning, a storm victim. “It blew over across the street rather than into the house or anything.”

Henning and his neighbors are still dealing with the aftermath of last week’s storm.

“(We had) a little bit of roof damage. We had some shingles that were loose, so we’ve got a tarp on it right now and we’ve got a call into the insurance adjustor,” Henning said.

Mike Lumetta, who’s involved with Your Professional Roofer, said he’s received an overwhelming number of calls for repairs.

“It is going to take time. I tell people I can’t get to a repair until the middle of next week if we’re lucky, depending on the weather,” Lumetta said.

He said some areas are being hit for the second or even third time in less than a year and a half.

“We put a new roof on a big shopping center in Wentzville and then we had to come back eight months later and put a new roof on that same shopping center. So St. Louis is getting known for being a storm center,” Lumetta said. “Who knows what the rest of the year is going to bring? We’ve still got major storm season coming up; hail season isn’t even here yet. It’s close.”
