ST. LOUIS – Statistics from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department show 149 homicides reported in 2024, noting the year with the fewest homicides reported in a year since 2013.
According to SLMPD data, there was an overall 15% drop in all crime across the city of St. Louis between 2024 and 2023, and specifically in homicides reported, there were 11 less reported in 2024 than in 2023.
Between 2012 and 2017, SLMPD reported a steady uptick in homicides in the city until a small decrease occurred in 2018. Then another increase throughout 2019 and an even larger uptick of 262 homicides reported in 2020.
Despite such a large uptick, St. Louis has seen a steady decrease in homicides since 2020, with 113 fewer homicides reported in the last four years.
According to the 2024 data, the city has not seen such a low count of homicides since 2013, when 120 homicides were reported.
