ST. LOUIS – If you want to escape into a horror experience, Sandbox VR at the City Foundry in Midtown St. Louis takes you straight to the sights and sounds of a zombie-infested insane asylum.
Just in time for the spooky season, Blair Ledet and John Pertzborn suited up as agents, Southside and Pertz, to give you a preview of the virtual reality venue’s newly released Deadwood Phobia experience.
“I think it’s perfect for Halloween time,” said Brandon Britton, Store Manager at Sandbox VR. “It’s exciting and scary. It takes place in an insane asylum. It walks you through some different phobias—germaphobia, haphephobia, and claustrophobia—where the room gets really small.”
All geared up on a haunted mission to save survivors from the insane asylum, you can see some of the guts and gore players must battle through from the eyes of virtual reality.
“The game’s goal is to save three of your companion agents and defeat the evil whisperer,” Britton said. “My favorite part is there’s a shadow part. Each player will see things that will freak them out,” said Dr. Dee, Store Lead at Sandbox VR.
The experience was pretty scary. Crazed zombies, clowns, and other unsightly characters clawed at Ledet and Pertzborn in the immersive life-or-death experience. Pertz did most of the protecting and left the screaming up to Southside. “Oh, we love it. We love all the fear, screams, and the scariness,” Britton said.
Players don’t even have to have much of an imagination. The graphics and sound effects of Deadwood Phobia, the third in the Deadwood series, get your heart thumping effortlessly.
“The screams are hilarious, and reactions are hilarious. They have some people rolling on the ground because it’s so scary sometimes,” Dr. Dee said.
Sandbox VR has plenty of other experiences to choose from. One is even modeled after the Netflix hit show Squid Game.
