ST. PETERS, Mo. – Taking back old and unused prescription medication: That was the sole mission of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.

Boxes were spread out across the St. Louis area, including in St. Peters, as part of a partnership between pharmacies and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

Drug Take Back Days happen twice a year, first in April, then in October. The DEA says it’s a safer alternative compared to throwing the medication in the trash, or leaving it somewhere it could be used or abused by a person who is not prescribed the medication.
