ST. LOUIS – Mother’s Day is just days away, and local businesses are getting ready for one of their busiest weekends of the year.

Over at Walter Knoll Florist, the team is booked and busy. They’ve been preparing for this weekend for months and are working long hours to fulfill what they say is 10 times their usual volume.

“These flowers are grown for us down in South America. They have to be cut. They have to be shipped to the coast. We have to do all of that so it’s just right for you on the perfect day,” said Chuck Knoll, Operations of Walter Knoll Florist.

Walter Knoll Florist has been around since the 1800s and says Mother’s Day even surpasses Valentine’s Day in sales because the celebration stretches over a full weekend.

With all three locations fully stocked, they encourage families to bring the kids and let them pick out something special for mom.

“I’m here to get my hands on as many flowers as I can to show appreciation to all the ladies that attend because they will all leave with their flowers,” said Erica White, a customer.

At Rockwell Beer Garden, the weekend festivities are just beginning. with tee ball games and live music sponsored by the St. Louis Chess Club.

“On Mother’s Day morning, we do have a free bar class for the moms. It will be here on the parking pad and that’s something through STL Bar. It’s an amazing place. We partnered with them starting in May 31, we’ll have bar classes here on the parking pad every Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m.,” said Diane Anderson, shift lead manager at Rockwell Beer Garden.
