ST. LOUIS – A few months ago, some St. Louis Cardinals fans were expressing frustration over the team’s last-place performance. That’s changed now that the team has turned their season around and is eyeing a run at first place in the National League’s Central Division.

“They’re the team that’s figured it out,” Dale Dusheke, a Cardinals fan attending the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals, said.

Before the night game, the Cardinals honored the memory of legendary manager Whitey Herzog with an on-field ceremony.

“He gave us excitement, enthusiasm and a World Series,” longtime Cardinals fan Scott Draper said.

Some fans say the performances of players such as shortstop Masyn Winn remind them of the excitement players like Ozzie Smith provided.

“It’s like art you know; it’s poetry,” fan Jayden Street said, describing how Winn turns a double play.

Others have also been impressed with the team’s bullpen, defense and offense from younger players.

“We need Goldschmidt and we need Arenado to come back to normalcy, and then I think they’ll be great,” fan Drake Vetter said.
