ST. LOUIS — Beginning April 1, it will cost individuals more to park at St. Louis Lambert International Airport. The changes were confirmed Wednesday at an airport commission meeting.

The significant price increases will be $3 extra a day to park in Terminal One and Terminal Two garages. Airport Director, Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, told the commission regarding the price hike—the second in the past to years.

“For us to look at these costs keep rising and revenue sliding if we’re not keeping up with some of those maintenance costs,” she said. “We felt that it was time to look at an increase.”

The 24-hour rates for Terminal One Garage will go from $25 to $28 on April 1.Terminal Two garage will jump from $26 to $29. Prices for Lots A, B, C and D will go up by $1.

LOT E will go from $23 to $25. Less than two-hour parking will remain the same at $25.

“We did do research not only locally, but what other airports are looking at, and I think that knowing that, especially the Terminal One garage is an older garage and it doesn’t have the bells,” Hamm-Niebruegge said.

The commission unanimously approved the new rate increase; however, its approval is not required to change the parking rates.

A spokesperson for the airport said a 2001 Airport Commission Resolution gave the airport director authority to increase parking rates.

In addition to the parking price changes, the airport commission also approved a new agreement with Garda World Security Services. The three-year, $38.1 million contract takes effect May 1.

Security guards will report to airport police and will assist the 91 airport police officers in keeping the airport safe.
