COLUMBIA, Mo. – Students both in and outside of Greek life at the University of Missouri say that while they feel safe on campus, there are lessons to be learned from a disturbing incident Tuesday.

41-year-old Jeffrey Wheeland is charged with burglary, kidnapping, and assault after court records show that just before 7 p.m., he had left the University Hospital, ran to the part of campus known as “Greek Town,” and eventually ran into the Sigma Kappa sorority house.

He allegedly stole multiple knives from the kitchen and barricaded himself in a room with one of the sorority members.

No injuries were reported, and MU Police made a quick arrest.

Students at Mizzou say they’re still shocked, and it serves as a reminder to keep your guard up, no matter where you are.
