EAST ALTON, Ill. — A man is dead after a standoff involving police and a suspect inside a trailer home on Lakeside Avenue. The situation began with a shots fired call, and when police started to investigate, they were fired at, leading to a shootout.
The suspect was later found dead inside the home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The police chief tells FOX 2 that no officers were injured despite a patrol car being hit.
The investigation is ongoing, but the police say that this was an isolated incident. They say that there is no threat to the community.
