ST. LOUIS — A 16-year-old is in critical condition after allegedly attempting to rob two men. According to St. Louis City police, several gunshots were fired near 9th and Russell in South City around 1:30 a.m. on July 20.
An off-duty officer heard the shots and saw a white SUV speed away. While investigating, police received another call from the two 24-year-old men, who had moved to another location for their safety.
The men told officers they were sitting in their car when four suspects in ski masks and dark clothing approached them.
One suspect reached inside the car and began taking their belongings, while two others stood behind it with a rifle. When one suspect tried to open the passenger door, the passenger shot him.
The victims left the scene and later heard more gunshots, which they believed were from the suspects. Three people in a white vehicle then dropped the 16-year-old off at a hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The other suspects quickly left the hospital after dropping off the injured teen. Police say they recovered a ski mask at the hospital.
