ST. LOUIS – According to a study by TitleMax, Missouri’s favorite sandwich is the Hot Salami. This sandwich features thick slices of salami topped with cheese, lettuce, and tomato.

In St. Louis, Gioia’s Deli is renowned for their hot salami sandwiches.

“What makes it so special is that we’ve been making the hot salami in-house at the same location, in the same room, for 103 years,” said owner Alex Donley in a previous interview with FOX 2. “It’s a process that the equipment has upgraded, obviously, but the process itself has not changed at all. We’re still hand-tying everything.”

Donley mentioned that the spices, the meat, and the process of making the salami including the sandwich have all remained the same.

“[It] is something that is handed down per generation, and now it’s my turn. I’ve been making hot salami since I was tall enough to see over the table,” said Donley.

Illinois:

In Illinois, the state favorite is the Italian Beef. This sandwich consists of thinly sliced and seasoned beef topped with au jus and peppers or giardiniera.

Chicago is famous for this type of sandwich, and a popular spot to get it is ‘Mr. Beef.’ According to Forbes magazine, the wildly popular TV show “The Bear” is based on this restaurant in season one.

TitleMax said they created this list by analyzing which sandwiches were popular in each state and compiling them to make a United States of Sandwiches guide.
