ST. LOUIS – Few foods are as universally beloved as pizza, though everyone has a preference when it comes to cheese, crust and toppings. With that in mind, finding the slices that truly stand out and rise above the rest is certainly a tall task.
A research team at LoveFood.com recently compiled a list naming “America’s Best Pizza Places” in each U.S. state. Their choices were based on reviews, awards, accolades, and first-hand experiences of their food-writing team.
According to LoveFood.com, Missouri’s “best pizza place” is none other than Pizzeoli Wood Fired Pizza in St. Louis.
Pizzeoli prides it on Neapolitan-inspired pizza, a style using thick crust, simple tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese. The pizzas are wood-fired, giving them a lightly-charred crust and a soft, chewy center.
Pizzeoli serves a variety of meat, vegetarian and vegan pizzas to serve just about any appetite. Toppings and ingredients include a variety of classic favorites to fresh, locally-sourced selections, crafted to satisfy both traditionalists and adventurous eaters alike.
LoveFood.com offers the following review of Pizzeoli:
“This cozy, candlelit pizzeria, dating back to 1928, serves a large menu of wood-fired pizzas using ingredients from local sustainable farms. Pizzeoli favorites include the Lumberjack Snack pizza – with mozzarella, bacon, pepperoni, and sweet peppers – and the Butterbird, with homemade Bourbon butter BBQ sauce, chicken, smoked Gouda, and smoked mozzarella.”
Pizzeoli has served St. Louis since 2014 and is located in the city’s Soulard neighborhood at 1928 South 12th Street.
