JERSEY COUNTY, Ill. – Three motorcyclists were arrested earlier this week in Jersey County, Illinois, after they were clocked at speeds exceeding 130 mph on a rural highway.

The Jersey County Sheriff’s Office noted that the arrests occurred Tuesday afternoon along State Highway 100 near Grafton. One rider was clocked at 142 mph in a 55 mph zone, while two others were clocked at 130 mph.

All three motorcyclists received citations for reckless driving, though their names and the possibility of criminal charges were not disclosed.

In wake of the incident, the Jersey County Sheriff’s Office shared the following reminder via Facebook:

“The JCSO wants to remind our drivers that if you lose control of any vehicle while traveling at such speeds, you will not survive. Moreover, anyone you hit at that speed will not survive. We respectfully ask that everyone obey our traffic laws, use common sense, and respect the lives of others when driving.”

Illinois enforces an “absolute speed limit law,” meaning any driver that exceeds the posted speed limit is in violation of the law and could receive a citation. State law also mandates that citations be issued for drivers exceeding the speed limit by 10 mph or more.
