ST. LOUIS – A large, strong, spring storm will spin into the Midwest late Monday night and impact our region Tuesday into Wednesday.

There is a level 1 out of 5 risk for strong storms with wind gusts of 50-60 mph.

Tuesday will see rain and thunderstorms along with gusty winds, which could gust to 40+ mph even outside of thunderstorms. The greater severe threat will remain well south into Arkansas and Louisiana. Temperatures Tuesday will range from the 50s north to 60s south.

Rain will come in waves Tuesday. One wave will impact the region between sunrise and 10 a.m.  Then the larger wave or rain and storms cross the region during the afternoon. This afternoon activity is most likely to produce a few stronger wind gusts. Rainfall totals up to 1 inch are possible.

The greatest impact times are likely to be the afternoon bus stop and evening rush, although some minor impacts are possible from rain for the morning drive as well.

Widespread rain will taper to scattered showers Tuesday night. Cold air will be wrapping into the system Wednesday as it starts to pull away and there is a chance of some sloppy, wind-blown, wet snow mixing with the rain over the northwestern area–possibly as far southeast as Metro St. Louis. I don’t see any accumulations. Wednesday just looks like a windy, damp, unpleasant day.

Thursday will be cool but dry before the unsettled pattern ramps up again heading into the weekend.
