POTOSI, Mo. – A tornado touched down in Washington County near Potosi on Wednesday, causing significant damage, power outages, and a set of livestock going missing.
The tornado, which struck along Highway 185 northwest of Potosi, leveled one home and damaged several others. Minor injuries have been reported, and emergency crews are working overnight to manage the aftermath.
“We’ve got significant damage… we’ve got power outages… and a long night and recovery ahead here in this area, due to severe weather,” said Bob Sansoucie, whose home is near where a house was flattened by the tornado.
Casey Price captured video footage of the tornado as it passed over his home, showing the full funnel cloud ripping through the rural area. Fortunately, his home was spared from damage.
Cell phone videos sent by viewers on the ground depict the destruction, including a home that was completely leveled by the storm. A Eureka fire official reported only minor injuries so far, but the situation is still being closely monitored.
In addition to structural damage, there are reports of missing horses and cattle, complicating recovery efforts as residents try to wrangle the animals. Power outages have also been reported in several areas, adding to the challenges faced by the community as they begin the cleanup process.
As Washington County begins to recover from the tornado, residents and emergency crews are focused on restoring power and locating missing livestock while assessing the full extent of the damage.
