ST. LOUIS – Despite delays and cancellations, some travelers are just rolling with the punches at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
By Monday afternoon, workers were clearing sidewalks and pathways for passengers coming in and out of the airport.
“I checked my flight’s status this morning, and it said ‘On Time,’” said Tad Desai, who was heading to Texas. “I couldn’t believe it. I had to pack really quick because I thought I’d have to leave tomorrow.”
Crystal Schwoeppe, who was going to Long Beach, also expected delays.
“But it’s on time, so I’m happy about that,” she said.
Overall, the airport reported 8.5 inches of snow from the storm, which stopped many in their tracks from Kansas City to Washington, D.C., with much of the country from Missouri to Virginia hit with snowfall.
“I had a lot of trouble,” said Selena Brown, whose trip to Phoenix has been postponed for a day. “Two cancelations. This is the third cancellation. So, hopefully, I’ll be there tomorrow evening.”
Those stuck inside the terminal sought important real estate near power outlets.
“I’ve got my Kindle for reading and my phone charging, so I’m ready for the wait,” said Cassandra Knuffman, waiting on a flight to North Carolina.
The less fortunate have been saddled with delays and reroutes, with some having to return to the airport a day later to get their bags.
“We had to fly into Denver,” said Christopher Lyles, who returned home from San Francisco on Sunday. “They rerouted us. We got to Denver; they canceled our flights. We finally flew into St. Louis, and once we got here, it was hell in short. Once we got here, there was nobody here. They had shut down the airport.”
Lyles finally got his luggage by 3 p.m. Monday.
