ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Two Michigan women have been charged with identity theft after fraudulently opening Best Buy credit cards in the St. Louis area, police say.
According to St. Louis County Police, Kyra Burns of Canton, Michigan, and Crystal Dunson of Detroit, Michigan, allegedly acted together between Jan. 13 and Jan. 14 to use victim’s identities to open credit cards.
Police said one victim told Richmond Heights police that she discovered several credit lines opened in her name at Best Buy locations across the St. Louis area, including in Chesterfield. The victim said purchases made on the credit cards totaled thousands of dollars.
Two additional victims told police that their information had been used to open lines of credit at Best Buy in St. Louis County and Brentwood. Police said the total amount of purchases made was $11,331.
The merchandise purchased at the St. Louis area Best Buy locations was later exchanged for other merchandise at Best Buy stores in Edwardsville, Illinois, and Springfield, Illinois.
Burns and Dunson were spotted in a vehicle with a Michigan plate and were identified from Best Buy surveillance video wearing the same clothing at the St. Louis and Illinois store locations.
An employee at the Edwardsville Best Buy also identified Burns and Dunson from a photo lineup.
Burns and Dunson have both been charged with three counts of identity theft with warrants out for their arrest and bonds set at $50,000.
