ST. LOUIS – Two well-known restaurants along Broadway in St. Louis announced plans to close doors this week. One has already shut down, and the other is set to follow on Friday.
Riccardo’s on Broadway, an Italian restaurant just north of downtown, and Billy’s on Broadway, a sports bar near Busch Stadium, are both closing doors, according to statements on their Facebook pages.
Riccardo’s says it is closing due to a dispute with its building’s landlords. Restaurant owners didn’t specify further details on the dispute, though say the closure is not due to lack of business or customer support.
Riccardo’s on Broadway was located at 1432 N. Broadway. The restaurant indicated there’s a possibility of relocating with plans to keep its Facebook page active “in the event that we land elsewhere.”
Billy’s is set to close doors on Friday. Restaurant owners attribute the closure to increasing challenges within the current landscape of the restaurant industry.
“It has pushed us beyond reasonable limits,” reads a Facebook post from Billy’s. “While we’re unable to continue in our current form, we remain hopeful for the future.”
Billy’s on Broadway is located at 701 S. Broadway. Owners says they are exploring opportunities to reimagine its concept and possibly seek new ownership.
