ST. JOHN, Mo. – An innovative underground bunker, once a government emergency response facility, is now available for lease in north St. Louis County.
The property, located at 3280 McKibbon Road, has seen significant attention from Facebook Marketplace in recent days. While the property may appeal to some as an unconventional home, the bunker is only available for lease as a commercial property.
This 3,800 square-foot property, originally constructed in 1976, offers several refurbished spaces, including a large room styled like a data center, a conference room, two bathrooms, a kitchenette, and a high-ceiling garage/warehouse area.
Built for resilience, the bunker features concrete walls to withstand extreme weather and nuclear exposure, according to lease listings. Recent upgrades include energy-efficient LED lighting, new kitchen cabinetry and tiled floors. The facility is also equipped with two underground emergency generators.
“The building is subterranean, constructed of reinforced concrete, and designed to resist nuclear, weather, and EMP attacks. There are various high security and redundant system features throughout the building,” said a lease listing through LoopNet.com.
William Jenkins of CIS Realty Group is handling the lease. He says the property could make for an ideal data center, disaster recovery center, NGA contractor space or general contractor office. He says the interior includes a variety of high-profile security systems.
The property also includes a parking lot that can hold up to 13 cars outside the shelter.
Jenkins says the property is available starting Dec. 1, with NNN lease options available for one year, three years and possibly longer. Listings for the property are online on LoopNet.com, WorthClark.com and Facebook Marketplace.
The Facebook Marketplace listing implies that a tenant would be responsible for $2,700 rent costs, along with taxes and insurance of around $700 per month.
