ST. LOUIS – The Vashon High School boys’ basketball team is once again contending for a state title.
With a 25-2 record this season so far, Vashon will play Potosi in a Class 4 state semifinal matchup Friday in Columbia, Missouri.
The Wolverines are going for a fifth straight title. This would be the first with new coach Jimmy McKinney, former star player for the program.
McKinney took over for Tony Irons, who is now coaching at the college level.
“To try to keep the tradition going, to try to keep the standard going, it means a lot to me, being an ex-player here,” said McKinney. “Also, I think it means a lot to Tony Irons because Coach Irons is like a second father and a brother to me. Just to keep it going, I think it’s a good accomplishment, not just for me, but also for him as well.”
With a victory Friday, Vashon would have a chance to play Logan-Rogersville or Benton for a state championship on Saturday. For the full Class 4 state schedule, click here.
