CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – A routine shoplifting call in a popular Chesterfield shopping area quickly escalated into a dangerous situation, leaving two officers injured and a suspect on the run.
Police say 27-year-old Blake Vossmeyer took off during a traffic stop at the corner of a busy intersection. Now, authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding him.
Tuesday night around 5:30, Dick’s Sporting Goods employees alerted police about a man who walked out with two large bags full of stolen merchandise.
The suspect then went into the nearby Five Below, where he allegedly stole candy and a toy before leaving in a red SUV.
Officers spotted the vehicle near Chesterfield Airport Road and Boones Crossing before pulling it over.
The driver was removed and the front seat passenger was identified as Blake Vossmeyer.
The police tried to stop him from leaning inside both front windows, but Vossmeyer sped off, throwing both officers to the ground.
Both officers suffered only minor injuries, with one taken to a nearby hospital. The car was later found abandoned in Chesterfield, but Vossmeyer and an unidentified woman were nowhere to be found.
Police are calling for the public’s help in finding Blake Vossmeyer and the woman who was in the SUV with him.
Vossmeyer faces multiple charges, including two counts of assault and stealing a motor vehicle.
