ST. LOUIS – Colder temperatures are in place as our next storm system arrives.
Drizzle and light rain will develop Wednesday morning and lift northward. North of I-70, temperatures are at or just below freezing and as the rain begins, this could lead to some freezing drizzle.
Thanks to the record temps earlier in the week, ground and road temps are warm. So, any light ice accumulation will be limited to back decks and car windshields. But a few slick spots will also be possible on area bridges and overpasses, where the colder air can get to flow both over and under the roadway. So, drivers north of I-70 should be cautious Wednesday morning.
Temperatures will gradually warm throughout Wednesday, taking the threat for any icing away through the morning. Rain and maybe some thunder around Wednesday afternoon and into the evening. Daytime highs around 40 F but then temperatures actually keep rising through the evening.
We’ll reach the upper 40s overnight as the rain exits. Clearing skies Thursday. After a brief sunrise dip, temps will push back to near 50 F for highs. A chillier day Friday with clouds returning. We’ll see another round of rain Friday night and into Saturday.
Temperatures turn colder behind this rain for next week. The early outlook has us watching for some winter weather potential into next Tuesday.
