ST. LOUIS – The November general election is less than two weeks away. With no-excuse, in-person absentee voting underway across the state until Monday, Nov. 4, Missouri voters are being advised to vote early to avoid potentially longer lines on Election Day.

But whether you choose to vote early or wait until Nov. 5 to exercise your civic duty, it’s important to know what you’ll need to bring with you in order to cast your ballot.

Missouri law requires voters to present a photo ID to cast a non-provisional ballot in elections.

Anyone who registers to vote in Missouri is required to present a valid form of government-issued identification, such as a Missouri ID or driver’s license, to complete his or her registration. When voting, you must present the ID or license or either a U.S. passport or military ID, at your precinct.

In the event you have no acceptable form of identification in your possession when you walk into a polling place, don’t fret! If you are registered, you can vote, according to the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office. You’ll be allowed to cast a provisional ballot. You can then go back home, retrieve an ID, and return to the polling place to show election workers. If you do not, precinct workers will check the signature on your provisional ballot with the one on the voter roll. If the signatures match, your ballot will be counted.
