CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — As demolition crews continue the destruction of Chesterfield Mall, fragments of the once bustling mall have turned to rubble.
Deconstruction of the shopping center began back in October 2024 as the mall finished its 48-year run, outlasting most modern American malls.
Demolition of the mall will make way for the construction of the new Downtown Chesterfield complex featuring high-rise apartment buildings and hotels, retail, and a large park at the center of it all.
The Staenburg Group said it plans to give city residents new options for entertainment shopping. Grading is scheduled to begin in May, with vertical development to begin in the fall of this year.

Plans include mixed-use development of apartments and businesses. Macy’s will be redeveloped to include retail on the first floor and open the upper levels as offices, where medical and data companies have already shown interest, according to The Staenburg Group.
The Staenburg Group said the first phases of the new development could be complete by 2027.
