ST. LOUIS – It’s not a matter of if, but when. This week’s winter storm will bring snowfall to not only the St. Louis area but the entire FOX 2 viewing area. Some areas will see just 1 to 3 inches of accumulation, with others looking at a potential foot of snow.

But when will the snowfall begin?

St. Louis and the majority of the viewing area are under a winter storm watch late Monday evening through Tuesday night. The southwest portion of the FOX 2 viewing area will be under a winter storm warning from Monday evening to Wednesday morning.

Some light snow and flurries will continue Monday afternoon along the Missouri River and Interstate 70 into metro St. Louis and extending over into Illinois. Accumulations will be limited to a dusting in most cases.

Additional bands of light snow and flurries will pop up after midnight and into Tuesday morning rush hour Tuesday. Some minor accumulations are possible with a dusting up to 1 inch possible in isolated locations.

The main event develops Tuesday afternoon as snowfall rates may be more than one inch per hour at times into Tuesday night.

Snowfall will come to an end early Wednesday, but northeast winds may lead to blowing snow concerns for Wednesday morning.

Temperatures will remain below freezing until Saturday, which could affect road treatments.
