WASHINGTON, Mo. – A man is dead after police say his wife shot and killed him.
The Washington Police Department received a shocking 911 call Sunday morning from a woman claiming she had just shot her husband.
When officers got to the home on East 8th Street in Washington, Missouri, between Roosevelt and Lincoln streets, they found 31-year-old Matthew Lackey dead from a gunshot wound.
Police say 31-year-old Samantha Lackey admitted to the shooting when police got to the home. According to investigators, a fight between the couple escalated and Samantha fired a single shot from a handgun, killing her husband.
On Monday, this information was handed over to the Franklin County prosecuting attorney. Samantha Lackey is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Lackey is being held at the Franklin County Adult Detention Center without bond. Her husband’s death is still under investigation.
This is reportedly the first homicide of 2024 in Washington, a city of about 15 thousand people.
