MISSOURI – The weekend winter storm was more about ice than snow in southeast Missouri.

Everything from Farmington to the south is coated in a thick layer of ice topped off with a few inches of snow. The ice is anywhere from one-third of an inch to just under one-inch thick.

The weight of that ice brought down trees and power lines with widespread power outages reported from Dent County across to Perry County.

Monday night, the big concern is the remaining ice in the trees, as any wind could bring down more limbs and bring down more power lines.

In addition, thousands of southeast Missouri residents are facing another night without power as temperatures are forecast to get even colder.

The situation has improved markedly in Farmington with only a handful of residents still without power. However, officials suggest anyone who is still without power should contact St. Francois County Central Dispatch to see about finding a warm place to sleep at 573-431-3131.
