FLORISSANT, Mo. – On Saturday, a group of women came together to save a historic home in Florissant.

The Reeb House was built more than a century and a half ago. One of Florissant’s first French settlers, Antoine Reeb was also a carpenter and built the home in 1870. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Just last year, the house caught on fire. It was slated to be torn down. That’s when women of the St. Louis Carpenters Union and Missouri Women In Trades stepped in and dedicated time to help preserve the property.

Saturday marked a day of major restoration efforts.

“We learned it was scheduled to be demolished. We decided to step in and save the house,” said Gina Sieve, president of Historic Florissant Inc.

The women who helped with restoring the Reeb House say, in addition to the camaraderie they share, their main focus is giving back to communities across the St. Louis region.
