ST,. LOUIS – A nursery is set to open at the Women’s Eastern Correctional Center this week. The new law is an initiative to keep incarcerated mothers with their babies.

The nursery will be able to serve up to 14 mothers and their babies. The program gives them the chance to bond with their child for up to 18 months, rather than have them separated at birth.

The nursery opens Thursday and will be equipped with cribs, bathing rooms, educational spaces, and a kitchen.
