ST. LOUIS – Nearly two weeks after a deadly tornado swept across parts of St. Louis City and County, relief and recovery efforts continue apace. Critical supplies are still in high demand so individuals can recover or maintain some semblance of normalcy and dignity.
On Saturday, May 31, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis will host its second large-scale distribution of relief supplies to families affected by the May 16 tornado. The Urban League hopes to provide 3,000 packages of food, toiletries, and other essential items.
The distribution drive is from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Urban League’s regional headquarters at 1408 North Kingshighway Boulevard. Volunteers will be needed to help packing items for this and future distribution drives. Anyone interested in signing up can visit ULSTL.com or contact the United Way 211.
The Urban League headquarters will continue to accept donations Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The following items are needed:
- Food items – Canned fruit, chicken and tuna, soup, rice, cereal, oatmeal, applesauce, crackers, trail mix, PB&J, packaged snacks, bottled water, Gatorade
- General supplies – Batteries, flashlights and lanterns, trash bags, tarps, extension cords, surge protectors, paper towels
- Infant & hygiene – Babby formula, diapers, disinfecting wipes, soap, shower gel, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine products
