ST. LOUIS – Court records indicate multiple suspects are facing criminal charges related to the thefts of electric pole transformers and wires in tornado-damaged neighborhoods of north St. Louis.
“I think this is as low as you can go,” said William Wright, a St. Louis resident with tornado damage to his home.
Court records indicate charges have been filed against defendants in cases that include alleged thefts from Walton Avenue, Natural Bridge Road, Kensington Place, and North Euclid Avenue.
A spokesperson for Ameren said, “Tampering with electric infrastructure is illegal and poses serious safety concerns, which is why we work closely with law enforcement to protect the energy grid.”
“Let’s get together and stop stealing,” said Tracy Wheeler, a St. Louis resident with roof damage to his home.
He said everyone’s energy should be focused on people who lost everything or suffered significant damage to their homes.
