CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Soon the streets will be filling up with kids and bonfires will be lit. Thankfully, the weather has been mostly a treat, with the rain having cleared out earlier in the day, leaving behind the cooler temperatures.
In one Chesterfield neighborhood, homeowner Robert Barlow goes all out in anticipation of the big night, with skeletons galore and some other spooky tricks.
“It’s just been a fun thing. The neighbors seem to get a real kick of it when we put it up,” he said. “And there’s a group kids in the neighborhood they love to walk down and as they kind of come down the street they all get a chuckle out of it. So, it kind of gives us the drive to do it a little bit more each year.”
After last year’s frigid temperatures, the improvement in the weather should mean more kids out and about.
“We’re prepared. We hit the candy store so we’re ready for a load of trick-or-treaters, so hopefully they show up in numbers tonight,” Barlow said.
Just down the street, neighbors join together for a pre trick or treat dinner party, a tradition started about five years ago.
“The kids have a fun time decorating and looking forward to all the different things they like to make like witches’ fingers and eyeballs, so it’s kind of a fun time,” Sara Echeberry said. “We just invite the whole neighborhood pretty much and just do a little potluck and have soups and chilis.”
The kids will then head out for their much-anticipated gathering of Halloween candy.
