ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Arrest warrants have been filed for two Illinois women accused of stealing several designer handbags worth tens of thousands of dollars from a posh department store.
According to the Frontenac Police Department’s probable cause statement, the theft occurred April 23 at the Saks Fifth Avenue store in Plaza Frontenac.
Police responded to a theft in progress. When they arrived, officers learned two women stole nine Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) handbags valued at $26,800 and fled in a vehicle.
Officers tracked the stolen bags to the Metro East, where local police stopped a vehicle driven by Jamille Cobin. Her attire and appearance matched that of one of the suspects seen on store security footage. Police found four of the stolen YSL bags in Cobin’s vehicle.
Cobin allegedly confessed to stealing the handbags with Tahiyyah Mays. She said they stopped at Mays’ home in Illinois after the theft and then split up.
Meanwhile, police said tracking data on the other bags showed they were at Mays’ parents’ home before Cobin left in her car.
An officer familiar with Mays from prior incidents viewed the security footage and believed she was the other person involved in the thefts.
Both women were already on probation for numerous stealing cases.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Mays and Cobin with stealing – $25,000 or more.
